What A Day

Up until now I've avoided talking about my work. I guess I didn't want this to read like some ad, but then I realise I've been quiet the last few days as the main things going on are work-related.

I also realised this is a journal of what is happening in our lives now so we can reflect upon it later and remember. So if I don't talk about work it won't be a true reflection, when it's such a huge part of my life.

So today, I shall write about my day, which will involve work!

It all started well enough. I knew our Nanny was sick as she had let me know yesterday. She is so reliable and I know she adores Baby A, who likewise is very fond of her. She wouldn't have been happy that she couldn't look after her today. Get well soon Nanny J.

All was ok as a friend offered to step in and as I had a presentation to deliver to 36 fellow female business owners, I needed to be able to make it and deliver.

Thankfully business is booming at the moment and as my business had just had its 3rd birthday, we are in the fortunate position that people are starting to come to us instead of us having to go out and get the business for every deal.

For this I am extremely grateful :)

In light of said business, I had already been working all hours this week and no time to write my presentation up. I knew roughly what I wanted to say, but it wasn't on paper and it certainly wasn't practised or timed. Not exactly my usual method for a presentation.

It was all ok (I was telling myself). My friend was due to collect Baby A an hour before I had to leave. So I had an hour to get it sorted. It would be tight but it was achievable.

Until my friend had a migraine and couldn't come round.

Eek!!

Poor thing was beside herself that she would have to let me down, but I calmly told her to rest and not worry. I would find a solution. I always manage to. This would be fine.

I secretly assumed this would not be happening and i would not be able to go. It's a group I've belonged to for 3 years, but it was an opportunity to tell the group about my plans for my new business venture (I don't spin enough plates so I thought I'd chuck a few more in the mix!)

Just to make it worse, the owner had asked me only yesterday to confirm that I was still ok to take the slot. To which of course I had agreed!

Nonetheless, despite accepting my fate and thinking I would not be making it to my presentation, with only just over an hour to go, I sent a distress call to one of my friends who runs a Nanny agency to see if she could secure me emergency cover.

Well she only blimmin did!

Within 30 minutes I had a nanny of 20 years experience at my door and I didn't have to pay anything other than her hourly rate (which was cheaper than you'd think!)

I couldn't believe it. Amazing. Look her up. If you have children, you need her in your life! www.sunrisenannyagency.com

So I was rescued. Phew! Presentation then frantically written and relevant prints taken. Suit on, make up, hair done, and off we go.

I got to my meeting on time. Had some excellent feedback about my new idea and then made my way back home.

But not before stepping outside to admire the beauty of where our meeting is held. Gorgeous.

I managed to get away with only rescheduling one meeting (as our cover nanny had to get on to somewhere else) but I got my urgent calls and admin handled and was able to pop to the shops and buy Mr Big's dinner, as well as some flowers and congrats card for my newly engaged brother and his fiancé, as well as biscuits for my friend who was ill. I dropped them in on the way home to see how she was doing before the mad rush at the end of the day with dinner and bed.

I then popped off to see said brother and fiancé and have just got in and sat down.

It's about 11pm.

Personal training tomorrow at 8.30am. Oh joy!

I can hardly wait.

Wondermum Makes - Tegenarium - Spider House!

My Mum isn't a lover of spiders and unfortunately she passed this fear unwittingly onto Roar when he was small. She didn't want him to stay afraid and so one Christmas, she bought him a Spider House Kit.  Between us we hoped he would learn about them and watch one and see they spend a lot of their time motionless and aren't really that scary. Don't get me wrong, I don't love it when a spider scuttles too close, but it's usually the shock of something scuttling into view that's more 'scary' than the spider itself.  Well, that's what I tell myself anyway!  We have no poisonous spiders to worry about so there really isn't anything to fear (although I know that isn't the same everywhere). We've had this Spider House Kit tucked away in a box for at least a couple of years as Roar was initially not keen.  However, in Lockdown all  the 'kits' are coming out and so has this one and, what's more, he's LOVED IT! He has l...

Best Lockdown Day Yet

Yesterday was a really lovely day.  I'm pretty sure that's the first time since Lockdown started that I've said that.  And it's rained all day! It's come at a really good time as we have just received a call to say Cub has been added to the UK's vulnerable list - which basically means we need to take extra measures to ensure he remains home and is 'shielded' from the virus by all of us. So to have a good day was important as we may be facing Lockdown for a lot longer than everyone else. I asked myself what it was that made it good and I realised we had no cross words, no raised voices, and we did all of the important things. Then it struck me.  We got up at the normal time and the kids actually went to bed a little later than usual (as we kept them up to Clap for Carers at 8pm) and yet we had only done the things that had real value.  Family value.  We had not pushed ourselves to complete loads of school work and I had not completed any paid work...

Writing - Breathing for the Soul - Our Shared Superpower

Since I've started writing again, I've come to the conclusion that for me, writing really is like breathing for my soul. The sense of calm and relief I feel and possess when I write is transformative compared to when I don't. I'm happier.  In all things.  All of the time.  It's like having a superpower that transcends all aspects of my life. Taking the time to write is in itself taking time to treat myself with a kindness I would usually only reserve for others. Like a soul-spa.  It cleanses and renews. It enables me to cut through the top 'chaos-layer' and reveal what sits underneath.  It's a way to cut out the noise and focus in on what's really true and what really matters. I get perspective too.  So if things are troubling or emotive, writing gives me the opportunity to 'talk it out' on the page and make sense of it all.  I am always clear by the time I'm done.  I know why I feel the way I do and what action I need to take...
