Argh! Let me OUT!

Oh my goodness. I hate cabin fever. But boy do I suffer from it. Yes I'm fortunate that much of what I do is very closeby. Which is a great time saver and so on. But, it also means there are days at a time where there is really no great need for me to go anywhere. I work from home. I shop online. I run the household. My daughter's nursery is 5 mins from my house. My Mum comes to see me on a Wednesday. I have a treadmill in my room. You get the picture. No actual need to GO anywhere. Unless I'm seeing customers, but I don't always need to physically see them. So. At times of heavy admin such as now, I become a hermit. It has been so utterly freezing here lately I haven't even been able to take Baby A to the park. Even the garden was frozen. But not snow. Just ice. So today I decided I must break free of my claustrophobia and escape. Outside. So I did. I organised myself so that when I took Baby A to nursery, rather than about-turning as usual, I w...

Discipline

Oh no. Yesterday Baby A was introduced to the 'naughty mat' for the very first time. She is generally a very contented toddler and we are very blessed that she is quite happy playing or reading her books and will just sit and entertain herself. Ok not for huge periods of time but long enough for me to sort out a load of washing, for example. So I am pleased she has a little independence and does not need me constantly. As long as she knows I am around somewhere, she is happy to sit and play. But, as my own mother likes to remind me, 'you can't have it all'. As with most truths, this is annoyingly so. Baby A also wants to be independent outside of the house, which I can understand as this is her nature. Except that of course does not work if she wants to walk one way but we need to go another. Or she wants to walk out into the road irrespective of on oncoming vehicles and I clearly want her away from the road. And so on. Baby A is just that little too you...

A Day The Life...

Life seems so crazy at the minute, I thought I'd write a typical day to remind myself of what I used to do when Baby A's all grown up and off to Big School, and the whole routine is controlled by school hours. And, if I'm honest, so I can remember! I'm sure having babies scrambles the brain. It might also help explain why there is so little room for anything else! Life is so full it feels like it's bursting at the seams. But we do keep the good stuff in too. This year I am attempting at least one 'fun thing' a month where Mr Big & I also get our own time. Whether that's an afternoon to ourselves or a weekend. I have come to realise it is not a 'nice to have'. It's fundamental. More about that elsewhere. For now, here's a typical day. 7.30 up, nappy, breakfast, play 8.30 tidy kitchen, load/unload dishwasher, put on washing, clean high chair 9.00 brush teeth, washed and dressed (baby A & me) and put away washing that has...

Pets

Baby A is I'm sure going to want a pet at some stage. She adores animals so, unless we manage to copy Pioneer Woman and live on our own ranch, I think we will at the very least need to get a pet. I would of course love to live on a ranch but feel that is somehow unlikely! Mr Big is also allergic to horses. So that limits the cowboy lifestyle somewhat. He has always secretly fancied himself as an actual cowboy though. A fancy I unwittingly fuelled when we were first together as I happened to love Bon Jovi's 'Wanted Dead or Alive' with the lyric - 'on a steel horse, I ride'. From this day Mr Big has always claimed that entitles him to ride steel horses in the form of motorbikes as he is allergic to the other kind. Hmmm. A ranch with motorbikes instead of horses. That could work. On that basis Mr Big, you can have your motorbike. All I want is our own ranch to live on first. Seems a fair compromise to me :) WM x PS see attached pic of Baby A with her ...

Sunny, sunny skies

Check it out. OK it's FREEZING, but what a sky. Beautiful. Blue. Crisp and clear. I love these skies. The air feels so much cleaner. Deep breath in and all feels right with the world. Lovely. WM x

The Pre Pregnancy Jeans

Now I've finally got through most of the washing (see last week's post) I have re-discovered the thing all Mum's dread: my body nemesis - the pre-preggers jeans. Oh the pain. Until now I had done pretty well in my post baby weight loss. I'd say I was fairly committed to my cause. I even have a treadmill IN MY BEDROOM! Yes - the actual room I sleep in. So I look at it last thing at night and first thing in the morning. The masochist in me favours torture as my motivational weapon of choice. It has worked. To some degree. And I have lost a lot of weight. And managed to get back into some of my pre preggers clothes , such as dresses for work etc. So it was all going so well. Until there, lurking in the bottom of one of the boxes from the loft, were the jeans of omens. The jeans I can no longer get past my THIGHS! Yes. Let me repeat - T H I G H S!!!  I tried (and tried). It would be bad enough if I couldn't get them done up. But not even past my thigh...

Our Three Legged Friend

Meet Benton. By far Baby A's most favouritest pussy cat (aka Meee-oww). Benton was sadly hit by a car when he was just a youngster and he lost his leg. But don't be fooled into thinking that stops him. Far from it. He can still run, climb and jump seemingly as well as any other pussy cat. And he can certainly out run a certain Baby A. Needless to say these were taken when she was asleep. Miaow. WM x
