Well this is a post I never expected to be writing! We are currently mid-lockdown in the UK having started our own isolation a little early as we thought we may have been exposed. So we went into lockdown of our own from 18th March.
I truly never thought in my lifetime I would see a time where flights stopped, schools were closed, all public places were off limits, police were tasked with breaking up gatherings of more than 2 and to ensure people only embarked on essential travel, and we were not really allowed to leave our homes other than for exercise!
And yet here we are! And really oddly, we seem to be adjusting to this 'new normal'.
I'm not sure what's more terrifying! That it took an 'invisible enemy' to lock down the world. That this happened so quickly. Or that we have adapted so fast?
In the UK we are lucky as we have the NHS which is doing a superb job. We also have a government with deep enough pockets they have offered a tonne of support to effectively keep most people afloat while this blows over.
This has been a real example of Brits doing what they are known for in a crisis. Battening down the hatches. Prioritising. And drinking lots of tea. It really does feel like our main job is to Keep Calm and Carry On!
It's odd to know we are living through a historical moment. History to me was always something that happened to other people. People who had gone before me and were probably long ago dead. So for history to be in the present, happening to me and to people I know and the whole world at once. This is unprecedented. Surreal. As if we are all in a film and about to wake up and find it was all a big, shared, unexplainable dream!
I am grateful that we are well and safe. Almost overnight I have stopped planning for the future and focused instead only on today and we are living a far more day by day lifestyle. There are some positives to take away from that mindset for sure.
My main focus has been to 'keep on keeping on' and instead of having every day mapped out, I have had to learn to take it almost from one moment to the next while we keep ourselves home and safe and keep the smalls entertained and happy. It has been a challenge which I will endeavour to share with you here. For now, some pics of some of the things we have been up to.
