Wow. C Beebies has a new show. And don't we know it!
I'm sure there will be many a parent now familiar with the saying, 'it's only my toy spider'.
As if. It is far from 'only' a toy spider! No other toy, let alone toy spider, has had such an effect!
On the plus side, when did toy spiders get so cute?
Baby A of course is obsessed. As I hear are lots of kiddieswinks. But it's a mixture of pleasure & pain.
While she loves the programme, and it is very clever in helping her to identify with some of the things she could encounter that may be challenging or fearful for her, each episode is only 5 mins long!
BBC - what were you thinking??!!
How am I meant to get ANYTHING done in that time? At least Waybuloo is a respectable 20 mins. And In The Night Garden - an even more helpful 30!
Don't get me wrong, I'm a far cry from having a 'tv babysitter' & I am really quite strict about the amount of tv I let Baby A watch. But it IS annoying that she is so seemingly addicted that every episode leaves her craving another.
'More Mummy', 'Another one', 'One more please Mummy'. And my favourite, as recently taught by Mr Big's negotiation skills: 'Deal?'
Needless to say, Baby A doesn't know what 'deal' means. Only that to the unsuspecting adult, it gets her another episode!
When the answer to such requests is 'no more' (and sometimes I do let her watch 2 - I'm not that mean!) - then woe betide whomever is the bearer of such news as it is NEVER well received.
Usually it is of course me as I invariably put her down for her nap or bedtime, and it is wind down time that we watch it, but my goodness, what a reaction.
And it doesn't improve. She's not like this over anything else.
Mr Big & I are in talks about whether to ban it. But maybe that will make her cravings worse?! One stay with the grandparents and I can well imagine 'watch spider' will lead to catastrophic consequences!
Of course I exaggerate. But she really does love it and doesn't want it to end! So every time we have tears, which is frustrating :(
To top things off, there is also no merchandise yet.
I never thought I'd hear myself utter those fateful words. I've become a 'typical' parent. Beaten into submission by the demands of my child. Desperate to give her whatever she wants in a vain attempt to make her happy. What is wrong with me?!
The makers of the toy have effectively issued a statement to say they will be bringing a 'toy spider' to market soon. But WHEN?!
Have they any idea when Baby A's 2nd birthday is?!
Joking of course. And I will NEVER be a parent who queues outside to get their kiddies latest 'favourite' toy. I remember the fuss over the teletubbies.
Nope. I draw the line.
I have to hold on to what's left of my principles.
(I'll send Mr Big instead).
