Our Friends Wedding By The Sea

We had a fantastic weekend away at the end of September at our friends wedding in Cornwall.

Bit of a trek but well worth it and we managed to go down a day early to make a proper break of it.

I was a bridesmaid so had lots of wedding duties to tend to the evening before and on the day, of course, but we got some quality family time in beforehand and it was wonderful.

Baby A squealed with delight when we let her 'off leash' without having to wear her butterfly bag with reigns attached. I felt a pang of guilt - she was so delighted to be free I realised we don't make the time enough to go where she can just run free.

Then I got over myself and remembered we've got our beach hut and she runs free on the beach all the time!

It was fun though. We went to Tintagel Castle and Baby A adored running all the way down the hill to the actual castle, along by a bubbling stream which she thought was the best thing ever!

She was so exhausted by the time we got to the bottom she collapsed asleep in her pram. We had brought the pram in case she was too tired which was brilliant planning on one hand but an absolute pain in the proverbial when we realised quite how rocky and quite how many steep steps there were to climb to get to the top of the castle. Not easy to do while juggling a sleeping 2 + stone little lady and her pram!

Still, not to be easily put off by such adversity, Mr Big & I carried on regardless and in true team spirit fashion, managed to somehow negotiate it all while carrying Baby A. It was pretty hard core but very worth it. Beautiful views from the top and we took some fab snaps.

Having clearly burned off so many calories, we easily earned our cream tea we had afterwards!

The wedding itself was also lovely. Wonderful to see such great friends tie the knot. They are a perfect match and were originally childhood sweethearts who came back together in their recent years. As they say, if its meant to be, it will be!

The bride looked breathtakingly beautiful and the groom wonderfully handsome. Gorgeous.

Mr Big and I obviously had Baby A with us but she was a dream and made both of us proud as she looked adorable in her matching dress and shrug, with butterflies in her hair.

Not to be party-poopers just because we had our little one with us, we stayed out and partied on with everyone until the end. Lots of people offered to hold a by then sleeping Baby A, so Mr Big & I even managed to have a dance or two and pretend we were young & carefree again!

It was a fabulous weekend. Even despite the puncture on the way home! Thankfully we had a spare and Mr Big aka 'Hero' knew what to do and we were on our way again in no time!

Wondermum Makes - Tegenarium - Spider House!

My Mum isn't a lover of spiders and unfortunately she passed this fear unwittingly onto Roar when he was small. She didn't want him to stay afraid and so one Christmas, she bought him a Spider House Kit.  Between us we hoped he would learn about them and watch one and see they spend a lot of their time motionless and aren't really that scary. Don't get me wrong, I don't love it when a spider scuttles too close, but it's usually the shock of something scuttling into view that's more 'scary' than the spider itself.  Well, that's what I tell myself anyway!  We have no poisonous spiders to worry about so there really isn't anything to fear (although I know that isn't the same everywhere). We've had this Spider House Kit tucked away in a box for at least a couple of years as Roar was initially not keen.  However, in Lockdown all  the 'kits' are coming out and so has this one and, what's more, he's LOVED IT! He has l...

Wondermum Makes - NHS Superhero Angels

Thursday night we 'clapped for carers' and made as much noise as possible in the Thursday night tradition (the UK's way of saying thanks to all the care workers for all they are doing to keep everyone safe throughout this Corona-virus). This inspired our craft idea for today and we made some NHS Superheroes but instead of the traditional hero capes, we decided they were also Angels and so their capes are Angel inspired 'wing-capes' instead :) Things You Will Need We had: various coloured paper, stapler (with staples loaded), cardboard tube, single and double-sided tape, scissors, crayons (for faces), felt tips (for eye colours), black pencil (for mouth), sandwich bag (for mask).  We also show pegs and Gorilla glue (super glue) but these are an alternative option as we only needed to use the stapler and tape.  If you do use glue, the pegs are to hold it together while drying as we have used this method previously. The other items we didn...

Best Lockdown Day Yet

Yesterday was a really lovely day.  I'm pretty sure that's the first time since Lockdown started that I've said that.  And it's rained all day! It's come at a really good time as we have just received a call to say Cub has been added to the UK's vulnerable list - which basically means we need to take extra measures to ensure he remains home and is 'shielded' from the virus by all of us. So to have a good day was important as we may be facing Lockdown for a lot longer than everyone else. I asked myself what it was that made it good and I realised we had no cross words, no raised voices, and we did all of the important things. Then it struck me.  We got up at the normal time and the kids actually went to bed a little later than usual (as we kept them up to Clap for Carers at 8pm) and yet we had only done the things that had real value.  Family value.  We had not pushed ourselves to complete loads of school work and I had not completed any paid work...
